At the age of 3, Mikayla’s brother was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. From a young age, she felt that he gifted her with a unique perspective of the world and the differences of the people in it. Beginning in Kindergarten, Mikayla was a peer mentor at Fort Sanders Educational Development Center in Knoxville, TN. In high school, she continued being a peer mentor our the Special Education classrooms. Since she became of age to work, Mikayla has provided services to children and adults with developmental disabilities in clinical, community, home and school settings for the past seven years. Mikayla loves seeing and celebrating client and family successes and taking time to appreciate the work that other staff, individual clients, and families put in!
Outside of work hours, Mikayla attends Paul Mitchell the School. She plans to use her license and skill set to provide sensory friendly services and transform the experience of a haircut for individuals experiencing sensory sensitivity. Mikayla plans to return to school to finish her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology of Applies Behavior Analysis. She enjoys spending time with her family, her fiancé – Nick, and her five dogs. When weather and time allow, Mikayla and her fiancé take their dogs hiking and travel to new destinations.
