“Stress is the main reason for lack of parental involvement alongside a child who is enrolled in an early intervention program” (Bennett, 2012). It’s important to build rapport, design programming that’s user-friendly, do-able, individualzed (to the circumstances of the family and their imminent needs) and consistent with principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) & therapy. Parental involvement helps ensure learned behaviors generalize into the home environment and elsewhere (Dillenburger, Keenan, Dohtery, Byrne, & Gallagher, 2010).
